CSM RE4040-FEn Fouling resistant Brackish Water RO Membrane

Advanced Fouling Resistant RO Membrane Technology

The CSM RE4040-FEn is a high rejection, low fouling reverse osmosis membrane developed by Toray Advanced Materials Korea for demanding industrial water treatment applications.

Membrane fouling is one of the major challenges in reverse osmosis systems, particularly when treating surface water, wastewater, brackish water and recycled water containing elevated concentrations of organic matter.

CSM's advanced fouling resistant membrane technology is designed to minimise the accumulation of contaminants on the membrane surface, helping maintain more stable RO performance under challenging operating conditions.

This element features the fouling resistance membrane chemistry and special feed spacer to lessen the impact of fouling in harsh water conditions.

  • Permeate flow and rejection ratings are based on manufacturer test conditions. Actual performance varies with feed-water quality, operating pressure, temperature and recovery rate.

  • Pre-treatment must be used to protect the membrane (softener, antiscalant dosing pump, sand filter, carbon filter, 5 mic cartridge fitler ...etc).

How CSM Fouling Resistant Technology Works

The CSM RE4040-FEn features advanced membrane technology designed to minimise fouling and maintain stable RO performance.

  • Hydrophilic Membrane Surface: Reduces the adhesion of oils and organic contaminants.

  • Smoother Surface: Helps minimise particle deposition and fouling.

  • Fouling-Resistant Feed Spacer: The CSM RE4040-FEn uses a feed spacer designed for fouling-resistant applications.

  • Reliable Performance: Helps maintain stable permeate flow and potentially reduce cleaning frequency.

About CSM

  • CSM is a leading membrane brand manufactured by Toray Advanced Materials Korea, with decades of experience in membrane technology since 1994.

  • CSM specialises in high-performance Reverse Osmosis (RO), Nanofiltration (NF) and Ultrafiltration (UF) membranes for residential, commercial and industrial water treatment applications.

  • Known for their quality, reliability and advanced technology, CSM membranes are widely used in water purification, seawater desalination, ultrapure water production and wastewater recycling worldwide.

Features and Benefits

  • High salt rejection – 99.7% nominal rejection for effective dissolved salt removal.

  • 2,400 GPD permeate flow – approximately 9,100 litres per day under standard test conditions.

  • Standard 4040 membrane size – suitable for compatible 4-inch × 40-inch RO pressure vessels.

  • Brackish water treatment – designed for reducing dissolved salts in commercial and industrial feed water.

  • Manufactured by Toray Advanced Materials Korea – CSM reverse osmosis membrane technology.

  • NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 certification – as indicated in the manufacturer’s product literature.

Alternative 4040 Low Fouling Reverse Osmosis Membranes

The CSM RE4040-FEn is a low fouling and high-rejection 4" × 40" brackish water reverse osmosis membrane.

Depending on the existing RO system design and operating conditions, it is considered as an alternative to:

  • DuPont (DOW): FilmTec BW30 PRO-4040

  • Hydranautics: LFC3-LD-4040, CPA5-LD-4040

  • Toray: Toray TML10D

  • LG BW 4040 AFR

  • GE Osmonics / SUEZ: SUEZ AG4040F LF, Veolia AG-90 LF

  • Vontron FR11-4040

Important: These models are potential alternatives. Permeate flow, salt rejection, operating pressure and physical connections may differ. Please check the manufacturer's datasheets and confirm compatibility before ordering.

MDC Water can assist with membrane selection and replacement compatibility for commercial and industrial RO systems.
