Common Issues with Reverse Osmosis Membranes and How to Troubleshoot Maintaining and Cleaning Your Reverse Osmosis Membrane Exploring the Future of Reverse Osmosis Membranes: Innovations and Advancements Let’s dive in and unlock the secrets behind this remarkable technology that continues to revolutionise the way we obtain clean, freshwater.

What is a Reverse Osmosis Membrane?

Reverse osmosis systems provide the finest level of filtration. The reverse osmosis process removes a large majority of contaminants from water by pushing the water using a high pressure pump through a semi-permeable membrane. The reverse osmosis membrane surface acts as a barrier to dissolved salts, inorganic molecules, and organic molecules, whilst still allowing water molecules to pass through. This thin film composite membrane rejects contaminants based on their size and charge. Any contaminant that has a molecular weight greater than 200 is likely rejected.

The RO membrane in your reverse osmosis water system is one of the key things that will determine the quality of your whole RO system. At MDC Water we offer a wide range of best quality reverse osmosis membrane replacements.

Reverse Osmosis Membrane Applications

There are a variety of reverse osmosis RO membranes in use throughout the market which act as processes in treating groundwater, surface water, and wastewater to a level that is acceptable for industries and especially consumption.

  • A reverse osmosis system is commonly used for low salt passage
(desalination) of seawater and brackish water for potable, commercial
    and industrial uses.
  • Production of ultrapure water. High purity water can be produced by means of double pass desalination. RO is used as a primary treatment to produce Ultrapure water for many industrial applications that require demineralised or deionised water. Further post treatment after the RO system such as EDI or mixed bed resin can increase the quality of the RO permeate and make it suitable for the most ultra pure water applications.
  • Wastewater treatment. Membrane technology is playing an increasingly important role in the reclamation of municipal wastewater. RO membranes have been proven to successfully treat such waste water and provide water that exceeds reuse quality requirements. In the case of industrial wastewater, RO is used in those industries where it is possible to improve the efficiency of the process by recuperating valuable components that can be recycled in the production process, or where reuse of the treated water represents an important reduction in the consumption of water.
