Complete Deionised Water Systems

MDC Water stocks portable DI vessel systems in 10L, 15L and 25L configurations, plus larger fixed mixed bed systems for industrial polishing. Portable vessels arrive ready for connection — fitted with quick-connect inlet and outlet, charged with mixed bed resin, and ready for service on town water or post-RO feed. Larger commercial DI tanks suit higher-throughput applications. Fixed mixed bed installations sit downstream of an RO system to polish permeate to near-zero conductivity. Each system is supplied as a complete unit; resin refills are stocked separately.

DI Resin Refills & Mixed Bed Resin

Resin refills are available as direct replacements for every MDC Water DI system size. Mixed bed resin is the standard consumable — a blended strong acid cation and strong base anion grade designed to be exhausted and replaced rather than regenerated on-site. Non-regenerable mixed bed is the right choice for most portable and small-scale industrial DI installations; regenerable resin is reserved for larger industrial plants with on-site regeneration capability. Refills ship as direct fits for the matching MDC vessel — no cross-brand sizing guesswork.

Industrial vs Portable DI Systems

Portable DI systems serve window cleaning, mobile detailing and short-duty applications; industrial DI systems serve laboratory, manufacturing and post-RO polishing duty. Portable units run intermittent duty cycles, are non-regenerable, and are sized by daily volume — typical 10L to 25L vessel handles a day's window cleaning on town water. Industrial DI runs continuous duty, often regenerable, and is sized for ongoing process flow rather than batch throughput. The same mixed bed chemistry applies — capacity, regeneration mode and use environment are the differentiators.

01. What is a deionised water system?

A deionised water system removes dissolved ions using ion exchange resins to produce water with conductivity typically below 1 µS/cm. Cation resin exchanges positive ions for hydrogen; anion resin exchanges negative ions for hydroxide. The combined effect strips dissolved salts and produces near-pure water suitable for laboratory, manufacturing and finishing applications.

02. What is the difference between reverse osmosis and deionisation?

Reverse osmosis uses a semi-permeable membrane to reject 95–99% of dissolved solids; deionisation uses ion exchange resins to remove the remaining ions for near-zero conductivity. RO is the bulk desalination step. DI is the polishing step. Most industrial low-conductivity applications run RO followed by DI rather than DI alone — RO handles the load, DI handles the finish.

03. How often does DI resin need to be replaced?

DI resin replacement frequency is set by feed-water TDS, system volume and daily throughput. A 25L portable vessel on low-TDS post-RO feed can run for weeks before exhaustion. The same vessel on raw town water with hundreds of ppm TDS may need replacement within days. The right way to schedule replacement is by monitoring outlet conductivity — when it climbs above the application's specification, the resin is exhausted.

04. Are DI water systems suitable for industrial use?

DI water systems are specified across laboratory, manufacturing, electronics and post-RO polishing applications, with capacity scaling from portable 10L vessels to larger industrial mixed bed installations. Industrial DI is most often paired with upstream RO so the resin handles only the residual ionic load. This combination produces consistently low-conductivity water without exhausting resin at uneconomic rates.
