MDC Water supplies commercial and industrial water softeners for hospitality, food and beverage, manufacturing and laundry applications. Stocked Australian builds run from compact single-tank commercial systems through duplex and triplex industrial configurations. Each system uses strong acid cation resin to exchange calcium and magnesium hardness ions, with replacement resin available directly from MDC Water.
Economical Large Capacity Manual water softener reduces the negative impacts of hard water, it treats the water by removing hardness using ion exchange resin. Softener resin exchanges the hardness ions (calcium & magnesium) for sodium ions.
Manual water softening system is a great option for commercial and industrial applications, car wash, window cleaner, farms, small factory, commercial and industrial appliance feed water (washing machines, dishwashers, showers ..etc).

How Do Manual Softeners Work
1. Raw water runs through a bed of sodium charged ion exchange resin
2. The hardness ions (calcium & magnesium) are exchanged with sodium ions
3. Eventually the resin contains only hardness minerals and has to be regenerated
4. The operator (You) monitor water usage, water quality and time, so you can know the softener needs to be regenerated.
5. You need to do the regenration cycles manually, you put it into the backwash cycle for 8-10 minutes, followed by a brine draw and slow rinse regenration for 40-60 minutes, then a brine tank refill for 10-15 minutes, followed by fast rinse 8-10 minutes, and then back into the service mode, the softener is now ready to soften again.
During regenration the brine solution is drawn through the bed and hardness ions exchange for the sodium ions, Hardness ions are then rinsed to the drain.
Detailed operation manual and video will be sent along with this water softener.

View ProductMDC Water builds commercial softener systems in 14" to 24" single tanks and industrial systems in 30"+ duplex or triplex configurations. The 14" and 18" tanks suit cafés, smaller hospitality sites and light commercial laundry — flow rates around 30 to 60 litres per minute. The 21" and 24" tanks suit mid-size hospitality, food and beverage and laundry sites running 60 to 120 litres per minute. Industrial 30"+ duplex and triplex builds run continuous-duty service for manufacturing, large laundry and process applications. Sizing is set against feed-water hardness, peak flow and daily volume — not premises type alone.
Commercial softeners run on timer, volumetric or duplex regeneration — each suited to a different duty cycle. Timer-based regeneration runs the cycle on a fixed schedule, simple but wastes salt on low-usage days. Volumetric (meter-initiated) regeneration only triggers when the resin actually approaches exhaustion, cutting salt and water use significantly on variable-duty sites. Duplex builds run two tanks in parallel — one in service while the other regenerates — for continuous-flow service with no soft water gap. Choose timer for predictable duty, volumetric for variable duty, duplex for continuous duty.
Commercial softeners use strong acid cation resin — typically 8% divinylbenzene crosslinked, with 10% DVB available for high-temperature or high-cycle duty. The 8% DVB grade is the standard choice for most commercial sites and offers the best balance of capacity and price. The 10% DVB premium grade extends life on high-cycle, hot-water or chlorinated feed applications where standard resin would degrade faster. MDC Water stocks both grades for replacement directly into existing softener vessels — there is no need to replace a complete softener when only the resin is exhausted.
Commercial softener sizing requires three inputs: feed-water hardness, peak flow rate, and daily treated-water volume. Hardness sets resin volume — higher hardness needs more resin per cubic metre treated. Peak flow sets vessel diameter — too small and pressure drops or hardness leakage rises. Daily volume sets regeneration frequency. With those three numbers, the right vessel size and resin volume can be specified rather than guessed from premises type.
Volumetric softeners regenerate when the meter detects exhaustion; timer-based units regenerate on a fixed schedule, typically every one to seven days depending on usage. Volumetric is more efficient because it only consumes salt when actually needed. Timer-based is simpler but wastes brine on low-usage periods. Duplex systems regenerate as one tank exhausts while the other carries service flow.
Commercial water softeners typically run a single tank on intermittent duty; industrial water softeners use duplex or triplex configurations for continuous-flow service with no service gap during regeneration. Industrial builds also use larger vessels, higher-grade resin where duty requires it, and full instrumentation. The split is duty-driven — a continuous-duty restaurant chain or laundry will need an industrial-grade build despite being a "commercial" premises.
Cation resin can be replaced inside the existing softener vessel — the vessel and control valve are long-life equipment. Standard 8% DVB cation resin lifespan typically runs 8 to 15 years on protected feed, longer with low-chlorine or post-carbon-filtered feed. When capacity drops or hardness leakage rises, recharging the vessel with fresh resin restores the system without replacing the vessel or valve. MDC Water stocks the resin grades to make this a routine maintenance task.
